Luisa finds fragments and versions of herself as she unpacks and packs boxes in a basement. Memories, friendships, treasures, and windows into other parts of the world come together in a space that becomes all spaces.

Irse/Leaving is a bilingual piece of visual poetry, movement, and sound that explores the feelings the body experiences when being separated (or not) from a situation, a place, objects, and memories.

This piece tells a family story, the story of the traveler, the story of Luisa.

How do we face the bittersweet pain of goodbye? Is it possible to untangle the memories held within objects and people? What do we need in order to leave and enjoy the flight?

Irse/Leaving was born as a work of collective creation and has evolved into documentary theatre, incorporating stories of migrants from around the world and the objects they've traveled with. What do you take with you when you have to leave your home behind?

For the first time, the play will be presented via streaming so that Venezuelans and migrants from other parts of the world can share the experience of watching IRSE, a theatrical poem about the act of leaving — and continue building this story together.

Proceeds raised from the streaming will go toward rebuilding our home (Venezuela). Teatro del Sótano will donate the money to organizations in Venezuela working with those affected by the earthquake that occurred in June 2026, with a primary focus on children.
