poENtry slam is born from our devotion to English language poetry and the electric charge of live performance. This monthly tournament invites voices from every corner of the world to step into the spotlight and transform language into movement, breath, and presence.
We live in a time when expression refuses to stay silent. Ideas no longer settle for the smooth surface of a screen but they demand the pulse of the body, the tremor of emotion, the shout that breaks through the noise. poENtry slam celebrates that urgency. It’s a space where words sweat, shake, collide, and reveal what we didn’t know we were carrying.
Barcelona, a city woven from countless cultures and languages, is the perfect home for this gathering. Our aim is simple: to connect people through poetry, to build a community where stories cross borders, and to offer a stage where anyone can claim their voice, welcoming performers and audiences from all backgrounds.
This is a poetry game in a healthy competition format.
The rules are simple:
- Poets perform their original poetry without props.
- Two rounds full of poetry.
- The audience decides the winner!

About the creator
Makis Moulos is a cultural events organizer based in Barcelona, a spoken word artist, and the author of five poetry books. He directs the National Poetry Slam Championship in Greece and he is a founding member of the World Poetry Slam Organization, having co directed both the European Poetry Slam Championship (Brussels, 2021) and the World Poetry Slam Championship (Brussels, 2022).
He is also the director and producer of Duende Sessions, an annual experimental spoken word festival dedicated to boundary breaking performance and new poetic forms.
Makis launched poENtry slam in Barcelona in 2018 and has kept it alive ever since. The project began as a home for the city’s international spoken word community, a stage for newcomers, migrants, and artists who don’t speak Spanish but carry stories and emotions they need to share. poENtry slam offers them a space to perform, connect, and express themselves through the living art of performance poetry.
