Theatre people love to read, readers love theatre. This book club is for us.
In this first cycle of the Theatre Book Club we'll meet to discuss 4 books centered around Shakespeare.
How does it work? Each month we'll read a book with a theatrical theme or theatrical characters, meet to discuss it over vermouth, and repeat the following month.
You don't have to finish the whole book to attend the meeting. It's totally fine to show up and say "I didn't finish it because I didn't like it" or "I didn't finish it because I didn't have time" or "I only watched the movie."
This month's book is Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell:
Warwickshire in the 1580s. Agnes is a woman as feared as she is sought after for her unusual gifts. She settles with her husband on Henley Street, Stratford, and has three children: a daughter, Susanna, and then twins, Hamnet and Judith. The boy, Hamnet, dies in 1596, aged eleven. Four years or so later, the husband writes a play called Hamlet.
Coming up in the following months we'll read:
If We Were Villains, M.L. Rio
All's Well, Mona Awad
Hag-Seed, Margaret Atwood
