In a nation that has declared universities the enemy and censored science that could threaten power and profit, a former chemistry professor clings to memories of connection while he flees the authorities. The chemist attempts to make sense of his past and preserve the future by telling the most fantastic, truest story he knows — the story of an atom of carbon.
