AUDITION DATES

When registering, performers must choose to attend ONE of these audition dates:

• Friday, February 6th from 15:00 to 18:00

• Sunday, February 8th from 11:00 to 14:00

PREPARING FOR THE AUDITION

• Group component: Much of the audition will be facilitated as an interactive group workshop, as the production rests heavily on having a cohesive ensemble.

• Individual component: In addition, please prepare a fragment of a song of your choice to sing solo with playback or a capella. No more than one minute long.

IMPORTANT PRODUCTION DATES and LOCATION

Please only audition if you can accommodate these dates and this location in your schedule:

• Performances will be in June 2026: 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 21st 

• Rehearsals begin from February 20th. They will be twice a week to be arranged with the cast, but will be weekly on one weekday in the late afternoon and a weekend morning.

• Location of performances and rehearsals will be The BCN Studio: c/ d’Elkano 26 1A, Poble Sec, Barcelona

PLOT SUMMARY

Alice’s Show is set inside a memory replay. Alice, a 90-year-old patient in a psychiatric hospital of the future, revisits key moments from her past. As memories resurface, scenes fragment and overlap, guided by a Greek style chorus who frame, question, and occasionally disrupt the story.

At the centre of this story is Alice’s relationship with Jay, a charismatic busker she meets on a night out. Their connection is immediate and intense but later complicated by the possibility that a so-called “love drug” played a role in bringing them together. 

A cast which includes a psychiatric nurse, Alice’s two Friends, a Greek Chorus, two theatre critics and a drug dealer or two join the action, blurring the line between reality and performance.

As the story unfolds, Alice and Jay must decide whether love that began in uncertainty can still be chosen freely. Memory may be unreliable, but feeling persists. The story moves toward Alice claiming authorship of her present rather than seeking certainty about her past. Not every memory is a lie, but every memory is a choice.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for actors who enjoy working in a contemporary theatrical style with indie pop music, rather than traditional musical theatre. Emotional clarity, presence, and connection with an audience are more important than vocal power. Performers should be comfortable moving between dialogue, song, and movement, and several roles involve visible doubling.

Strong ensemble skills and a collaborative rehearsal approach are essential. Guitar or other instrumental skills are welcome but not essential. Above all, we’re keen to work with performers who are curious, playful, and open to ambiguity in storytelling.

CAST

2 main protagonists: Females age 30ish

Alice carries the show. She’s smart, funny, and emotionally guarded, learning to step into her own story. Needs strong connection with an audience and an indie-pop vocal style.

Jay is charismatic, sharp, and guarded. She is a busker, somewhat cynical. Guitar skills are a plus. Needs to balance confidence with vulnerability. 

Alice and Jay sing most of the songs alone and together with the Chorus. They sing in an Indie pop style. We are open to anything within that loose definition, but if you want pointers to the kind of vibe, for Alice think Birdy or Stevie Nicks, for Jay think Nadine Shah or Chrissie Hynde.

Supporting Cast of 4: Any age, 2 or 3 Female, 1 or 2 Male 

This is an ensemble musical meaning that beyond the two protagonists, the remaining cast members will play various, dynamic and interesting roles with plenty of stage time.

• Janus, Hocus and Borus: The Greek Chorus

• Chilly, Silly and Lily: Alice’s 3 friends

• Digby and Quegway: two theatre critics

• Alvaro and Fat Julie: two street cleaners

• Nic and Angel: 2 drug dealers

• Kirk: a Psychiatric nurse

• A police officer, An 80s guy in a club (non-speaking)

The Greek-style Chorus 

They frame and disrupt the story. They often speak mock verse. They sing the chorus to nearly all the songs. 

Janus (analytical), Hocus (playful), Borus (romantic)

Silly is warm, impulsive, and fun, a big heart who makes mistakes. Strong comic timing is essential. Chilly is dry, sceptical, and emotionally perceptive. Deadpan delivery and grounded authority needed. They sing 2 songs with Alice

Digby / Alvaro and Quegway / Fat Julie 

These roles require confident comic performers who enjoy some improvisation with the audience. They sing a duet together
